One of the joys of my job is getting to reconnect with families as they grow, and this recent session with a returning family expecting their second child was such a treat! We chose the stunning Italian Gardens at Maymont park in Richmond for their maternity session, a spot that holds endless opportunities for capturing beautiful moments. Maymont is a gem, offering so many beautiful backdrops for sessions, but the Italian Gardens always have a special place in my heart. The gorgeous stonework and rotating flowers throughout the year provide a timeless, romantic setting. For this family, it was the perfect spot to capture the anticipation of welcoming their newest addition for their Maymont park maternity session. The garden paths and hidden nooks are also ideal for little ones to explore, which makes it a great choice for families with older siblings who need to get their wiggles out. Growing up, I spent time wandering these same paths, and it always felt like stepping into The Secret Garden. I love seeing the same sense of wonder in the children I photograph here!
Short and Sweet Maternity Sessions in Richmond, Virgina
Maternity sessions are usually shorter because I want to make sure my moms-to-be stay comfortable. Plus, I want to be mindful of any older siblings who might tire out quickly. These sessions typically last around 30-45 minutes, just enough time to capture some beautiful moments without wearing anyone out.
One thing I love about my sessions is the chance for moms to choose outfits from my client wardrobe. For this session, she picked out a stunning dress from Nothing Fits But—a favorite among my clients! It flowed beautifully and added the perfect touch to the photos.
